Dry Needling Now Provided at GT Physical Therapy!

Your Doctors of Physical Therapy at GT Physical Therapy in Louisville, MS are now certified in Dry Needling by the Dry Needling Institute of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. Mississippi’s Attorney General has now made two rulings that Dry Needling is within the scope of care of a Licensed Physical Therapists in Mississippi with 50 hours of training in this procedure.

We are the first Physical Therapy clinic with our Doctors of PT fully certified in dry needling and able to provide this beneficial procedure to its patients.

There are many courses that provide education in dry needling; however, we chose the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy due to it’s rigorous certification process involving both practical and written examinations. In depth and exhaustive research is presented to ensure an evidence-based approach is practiced. Most courses focus on needling of trigger points; however, Dr. James Dunning, DPT, PT, MSc Manip Ther, OCS, MTC, MSPT, MCSP, MAACP (UK), FAAOMPT, MMACP (UK) of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy and founder of the Spinal Manipulation Institute provides comprehensive training involving not only trigger points but other structures shown to better achieve a therapeutic effect.

Dr. Dunning is quick to point out that although DN is NOT acupuncture in terms of not using concepts of traditional Chinese Medicine, there are many anatomical areas (peri-neural, teno-osseous junctions, tendons, muscles, ligaments, and fascia) that can be used in conjunction with trigger points and other anatomic structures to improve the outcome. Of course, research is provided to back up this methodology. Also an acupuncturist, Dr. Dunning, is the leading provider of education in this field, and we are proud to carry certification through his associated organization.

We also have a great appreciation for the relatively gentle approach as compared to other courses we researched. We are proud to further strengthen our ability to help you feel better, heal faster, and move better!

Basically, dry needling is a procedure we will use when our other painless techniques aren’t getting the job done – and this is rare. Of course, if you are needle-phobic or have other issues that contraindicate needle puncture, this procedure will not be considered.

These needles are small and solid – they’re called monofilaments. Dry needling is very safe, also! Be sure to call us now to see if this method can help you get out of pain and get into life!
